A Burial release is never to be expected, as over the years London’s William Emmanuel Bevan has attained his fabled alias’ status through frequent but unforeseen re-surfacings. Collaborating with a formidable collection of artists such as Four Tet, Massive Attack, Thom Yorke and Zomby over the years—in addition to a hefty slew of acclaimed long-form EPs— Bevan has remained a recluse in his achievements, intentionally shying away from the public eye. And it should go without saying, that one should not be shocked yet another surprise is, at last, seeing the light of day without forewarning.

Today, Sept. 14, Bevan dropped a new single on Hyperdub titled “Rodent,” paired with a remix by label head Kode9 on the track’s b-side.

“Rodent” follows up Burial’s earlier 2017 releases of the Subtemple EP and “Beachfires,” as well as remixes of Goldie’s 1995 track “Inner City Life” and Mønic’s “Deep Summer.” The new track is Burial’s third release of the year and implores emotive, soothing vocals and a unique rhythmic approach in its sonic profile.
