Inventions-band-2015

Like ocean waves, that kind of pulsing, thrumming, rushing, dull roar that fills your brain as much as your ears. It drowns out thought like it drowns out all other sound – peace. This track, like the rest of the Inventions album, allows you to either tune in or tune out. It can be creativity inducing background noise or mental-chatter pausing sensual stimuli. I feel like this track is the equivalent to the proverbial ‘little black dress’ – it goes with everything. Did you have a totally shit day? Turn this on, then turn it up and let it wash away the day. Did you have a totally awesome day, feeling like Kind Midas, where everything you touched turned to gold? Press play on this track and stay golden, as you feel each beat flow through you, reaffirming how truly amazing you and your day were.

I wanted to do something that I don’t know how to do…

This track has very few lyrics, if you can call them that, more like sparse melodic quotes perhaps? Either way, call it what you want, this line speaks to all of us, or at least I personally think it should. What is life if you just continue to do the same things you’ve always done, in the same way you’ve always done them? Doing something you don’t know how to do doesn’t have to be a grand, overwhelming undertaking – keep it small (if you want, if you feel like learning to BASE jump, by all means fly on), maybe you learn how to roll sushi, play an instrument, learn acro yoga – whatever it is, it’s something new. If we live a life where we are constantly striving to learn and do new things, we are ever evolving, growing, shaping ourselves and the lives of those around us.

So maybe this track is the start to that. Have you done something you didn’t yet know how to do today? This week? This month? As I sit here typing this, hitting replay for the fourth time, feeling my energy rise with each beat, my gaze shifts to the untouched canvases, brushes and paints I bought more than a week ago – I am not a painter. So maybe I’ll hit replay for a fifth (sixth, seventh..) time, put aside the keyboard and pick up the paint brush – this will by my (sort of) something I don’t know how to do (at least not well…)

Escape the cycle of the every day with me, escape a cyclical routine that never changes or shifts, escape and evolve. Here’s to the “Escapers”, the ones who dare to be different, to make mistakes, to try something new, to fail, to succeed, this one’s for you.
