[CONCERT RECAP] Thomas Jack Melts Away The Chicago Winter At The MID

The weather in Chicago these past couple weeks has been nothing but blizzards and bitter cold. This past Thursday, February 5th Thomas Jack had “Chiberia” heating up at The Mid. His vibrant sound and tropical house melodies melted away frigid temperatures on a nippy night. This Australian artist brought a new flavor to the Chicago club scene.

Kicking off his set with an unusual deep house sound and slowly altering towards his favorable roots, Thomas Jack offered a taste of paradise by providing inspiration and happiness in the Benjamin Francis Leftwich “Atlas Hands” remix.

“Atlas Hands” is the perfect track for when things in your personal or professional life couldn’t get any worse. When your back is against the wall or you’re having a shitty day, week, or month. Whatever the case may be (work or relationship) this track can change your attitude or alter your mindset. Whether you’re sifting through the bullshit at your 8-5 or mending a broken heart, this inspirational song can provide support when things have hit rock bottom.

The lyrics “I’ve got a plan, I’ve got an atlas in my hands/ I’m gunna turn when I listen to the lessons I’ve learned” followed by the drop at 3:52 – incorporating the violin heavily – instantaneously toss those previous issues out the window; providing a keen sense of what you are worth as a person. It’s different for each individual, possibly providing courage to walk away or quit that hated job with a fuck you and middle fingers blazing or inspire individuals to pursue the passions which they love. Overall this song brings uplifting hope and happiness to any situation in life.

There was no need for Thomas Jack to get acclimated to the frigid temperatures – he was too busy melting down the Mid. Bringing a distinct sound to the Chicago club by adding mixtures of saxophones, flutes, and violins, the atmosphere generated by TJ was like sex on the beach (and I don’t mean the drink). Thomas Jack is currently touring in North America and will be returning to Chicago for the Spring Awakening Music Festival, June 12 – 14. If you want to see a tropical aura radiated I highly recommend catching his next set.
