[DARK OXYGEN] Dark Pop Soundcast #5: ‘Watch Me Rise’ Edition

[DARK OXYGEN] is a periodic series at the Sights and Sounds where I collect a dark star explosion of the best dark indietronica out there. Dark pop gets a bad rap for being dramatic, but it’s all about being effortlessly cool. It’s also a respite in the world for the weird kids. A lot of people can’t breathe in the black hole spaces that moody, sexual, slightly deranged and aspirational pop creates; but if you’re as big a fan of the genre as I am, you know dark pop can replace the air you breathe, like [DARK OXYGEN]
Each soundcast will feature popular and up and coming artists who bring that dichtomous feeling of cinematic tragedy and heartbreaking hope to their music. This time:
Do you feel this
Do you feel it when you breathe?
Growing up on you?
LORN// ACID RAIN
HVOB// COOL MELT
BACK BACK FORWARD PUNCH// NO ANSWER (PAPERWATER REMIX)
I left my feelings
On a mountainside
There is nothing more
And it hurts so much
MIKKY EKKO//WATCH ME RISE
Now paranoia’s setting in
I’m falling from these stars again
While every part of me screams, “hold on”
Cause if you can’t learn to bend then you break
Oh my God, how long does it take?
Every lesson we learned took so long
But it made us strong
