The fragility of that bit of tenderness, fuck, man, it got to me. I’m just a tethered toy, a balloon that could waft into the wind never to be seen again. And I could look at you as I get whipped away, but even if you notice me leaving, even if you wave, I am just childish love objectified. I’m always going to be some fleeting, false version of the real deal. And I don’t want to pull on you, I don’t want to leave you here, because I don’t want to break your wrists.

Wrists. They turn every which way, and they feel like they should be the totems of arms that can grasp onto and hold anything that really.fucking.matters; but they’re really just the tenuous termination of a body that has a whole litany of places that you could place me if I was to linger, not wander away. I could be a prisoner of your heart, a punch to the gut–those fucked up adult versions of amor–but, I’m just hoping for the best in being your shadow. And I could follow you home, but ‘you’re a million miles away’, a million miles down the road to a life and love that will matter. I’m just not it. And there’s ‘Snow In Newark’ and it’s goddamn cold out here and I’m not….

….I can’t let myself be some toy that gets lost to the excitement of a turnaround to explore that fountain of light the corner of your eye saw, a tight tear across the street at a crossing that leaves me t-boned, ran over by traffic. I’ll take my mouth and tear me from this tethered connection. Don’t worry, you won’t even notice I’m gone.
