In ’95, Coolio’s hit single “1, 2, 3, 4” smoothly instructed us that we “Gotta Gotta get up to get down”, and the masses followed to the infectious beat. Almost twenty years later, as electronic music continues to disrupt almost every corner of our lives, The Knocks and Mat Zo turn Coolio’s lyricism on it’s head, informing us that it’s really the other way around. Who’s got the upper hand in this dilemma? Well, I’m not here to judge this chicken vs. egg situation, because either way you’re moving. So move up or move down, whatever your preference may be, to the bouncy, electro-groove beats laid down by the trio in their new track “Get Down 2 Get Up”. There’s a tinge of funk, a dash of Daft Punk vocoder, and no shortage of uber-catchy, dance floor gold.
