NY producer Baauer, now infamous for his viral “Harlem Shake” sounds, has dropped a high energy electro mix of UK duo Disclosure‘s new single “You & Me” featuring the vocals of Eliza Doolittle. Beginning with elements of Baauer’s notorious trap elements and some fast paced electronic work, Eliza’s fierce vocals soon echo through before we get the notorious drop. The New Yorker decided to keep it a bit more restrained here, however, and instead we get a nice little half time feel with some syncopated bass. I’m digging the vibes coming from this mix, which should sit well the the late night after hours crowd. Enjoy below.

The week of the big show has arrived! Anticipation is growing knowing that I’ll be hitting the road to jam out to some great music on the beach in a couple days. As you plan which acts to see, a lot of names might come up that you don’t recognize, so we will be putting our standout acts for each day into a nice little SoundCloud set over the next three days that you can listen to on your way to the venue.

If Saturday was heavy on the hip-hop sounds, consider day three to be an indie-rockers dream. While the morning session ushers out the last of the hip-hop with Oakland group Zion I, our afternoon schedule sees the west coast shift from hip-hop to indie as Best Coast takes the stage. While most of the EDM fans grab their early afternoon rage fest with Baauer and the “Harlem Shake,” you can probably find me hanging with the indie-pop jams of GROUPLOVE. Rockers Moon Taxi will be a nice follow up to either previous acts, whether you choose to continue rocking out or grabbing a breather after the Boom Boom Tent.

Another tough decision besets festival goers for the late afternoon slots as UK songstress Ellie Goulding will have kids “Starry Eyed” while Porter Robinson brings the noise in a performance I’m looking forward to. One of my most anticipated sets comes from Imagine Dragons afterward. I’m looking forward to seeing how they perform live and if it’s sounds as good as they do digitally. Following is EDM kingpin Steve Aoki, and while I know he puts on an amazing show, my eyes have seen it a couple times and I will be listening to the amazing sounds of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the music off their new album Mosquito.

Bloc Party rounds out the evening set with Trey Anastasio Band and Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit. And while Bloc Party will be my choice for one of the final performances, my mind will be focused on the final act of the weekend: Stevie Wonder. With more than 2 hours of set time, the magic he creates on stage is something I’ve wanted to witness for a long time. It will be a phenomenal ending to an amazing weekend of great music and art.

“When I make a mix I try and tell a story. These aren’t the newest or coolest songs on the block, and you probably wont hear me DJing most of them. But they’re all some of my personal favorite songs right now, and if I did things right, this will soundtrack some sort of epic drive that you take in the near future. I’m really happy with this one, and I hope I can help take you guys into spring right alongside me.

If you were online yesterday, it was probably only a matter of minutes before you inevitably ran into the news somewhere, somehow that a stream of Daft Punk‘s highly anticipated new album, Random Access Memories, was leaked online. While the leak didn’t come as a surprise to many – most of The Sights and Sounds staff agreed a leak would appear before the official release date – and by now, most of the internet has probably heard the album at least once through – the site that posted the original leak crashed for part of the day – we still thought it was in our job description as a music site to at touch on the subject.

While I haven’t had much time to listen to the album in full yet, most people agree that the new direction Daft Punk has chosen to take with their album, particularly with the analog instrumentation and a re-exploration of the funky disco elements of French house, is a great step forward not only for EDM, but for music as a whole. Producers and DJs the world over are hailing Guy-Manuel and Thomas Bangalter for their pioneering techniques, with guys like Wolfgang Gartner going as far as saying that he hopes “Daft Punk single-handedly… un-brainwashes everybody into realizing that real music should have some soul and authenticity to it.”

Yet one has to wonder if all the hype surrounding the duo is really worth it, or are we just overcompensating to a great marketing scheme laid forth by the record labels, albeit to a still supremely talented group. We’re not passing judgement here, just posing the question. I’ve found myself sucked into the excitement on multiple occasions, I’ve seen the crowd reactions the first time a club played “Get Lucky,” and yet I have to admit that I’m still growing a little weary of all the extraneous stories being generated over the topic. One of our writers has even left Facebook for the time being in protest to the Daft Punk explosion in his news feed. What are your thoughts on the album? Day two starts off with a unique blend of music with Earl Scioneaux’s Brassft Punk band – a New Orleans Daft Punk cover band that features soulful renditions of classics like “Around the World” and “Da Funk.” I’m intrigued to see them live and imagine it will set the pace to a great day. The next hour features a couple bands that I haven’t heard much of before, but I imagine I’ll check out a bit of the jam-band sounds of The Werks before seeing how the indie-pop sounds of Wild Cub play out in the mid day festival air. The rest of the afternoon sees me hopping between genres trying to catch some old school hip-hop with Public Enemy, toning it down for Dirty Projectors, then picking it back up with the electro-house sounds of Wolfgang Gartner.

Saturday evening leans heavy on the hip-hop, but as I just saw Holy Ghost! a couple months ago, the first evening slot may have to go to The Roots followed by some west coast beats from Kendrick Lamar. One of my longtime favorites, Slightly Stoopid, should set a great vibe for the evening with their long list of reggae/ska inspired tracks. While Bassnectar, about as opposite from the Slightly Stoopid vibe as you can get, always puts on a massive show that leaves the audience dripping. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, another one of the headlining acts who needs no introduction, caps off Saturday night of Hangout with a 2-hour set that I’m really looking forward to and that is sure to include classics such as “Free Falling” and “American Girl.”

The week of the big show has arrived! Anticipation is growing knowing that I’ll be hitting the road to jam out to some great music on the beach in a couple days. As you plan which acts to see, a lot of names might come up that you don’t recognize, so we will be putting our standout acts for each day into a nice little SoundCloud set over the next three days that you can listen to on your way to the venue.

Day one is going to start out a bit relaxed for me as we’ll keep the day bands to the mellowed out vibes of Lance Herbstrong and the indie-rock musings of UK songstress Lissie. My favorite part of the day performances at festivals such as Hangout is the variety of music available, and so the mid day sounds will consist of a range of indie-pop from Ra Ra Riot all the way to the soulful, 70′s sounds of Toots and the Maytals. If we can manage to squeeze in some sounds from rock n’ rollers The Sheepdogs, that would be just great, too.

As we get toward the evening, it will be time to amp things up a bit and catch the electro-house sounds of world reknown Afrojack, followed by a more small-town group, The Weeks, with their modern southern rock jams. And then the evening brings some group clashing as we have to decide whether to join the indie Passion Pit crew or the hip-hop dudes known as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Knowing neither will disappoint only makes the next decision just as difficult. Between The Shins and Big Gigantic we’ll just have to see how we feel. Rounding out the night will be headliners Kings Of Leon, who don’t really need an introduction at this point.
