Blonded

Big things come in small packages, or so the saying goes. After waiting more than four years for Blonde it came as quite a surprise to Frank Ocean’s cult following that on the second episode of his brand new Beats 1 show blonded Radio, the R&B singer dropped his new song “Chanel,”  accompanied by two pictures posted to his tumblr account.

Suffice to say, Frank Ocean fans rejoiced in the warmth of the new releases. After enduring a four year drought between the artist’s first and second album fans were ecstatic about the extra releases.

Frank Ocean is back again with his release of “Biking.” Featured on the track are rapper Jay Z and fellow OFWGKTA companion Tyler, the Creator.

Sonically, the track plays like your favorite old record. Campfire esque guitar samples intertwine with alien like synths, the two elements juxtapose in a synthesis of past and future, together they make up a single moment of conscious, present thought.

The track is a downtempo chronicle of  with no shortage of allusive imagery and ambiguous subtleties. Tyler and Jay’s verses sandwich Frank Ocean’s poignant falsetto, the supporting bars do well to accent his ethereal tone.

“Thinkin’ Maybe the government got nothin’ to do with it. Thinkin’ maybe the feeling just comes and it goes.”

Lyrically, all three of the artists on the track play with themes of energy set into motion.

“What goes around comes around” raps Jay Z on the first verse of the track, the artist constructs a triple entendre setting the thematic base for the track.

For avid Frank Ocean fans, the world is that much brighter today because of this. Frank, if you’re reading this, thank you.

“I’m bikin’, I’m bikin’, I’m bikin’ these blocks, yeah.”
