Your favorite misfits are back. With a new album and an upcoming tour, it’s clear Gorillaz have been puttin’ in work.

When I first heard news that Gorillaz announced another album, my first thought was, “Wait, didn’t they just release Humanz last year?”

It seems over the years, Gorillaz fans have grown accustomed to high-quality creations, yet calloused by the snail’s pace in which the band moves with their releases. Fans, including myself, were elated with the news of 2017’s Humanz, and regressed back to their preteen selves while watching the band perform during their tour. I exited 2017 believing the band would not release an album for another 3-5 years, at best. Well, leave it to Gorillaz to pop out of door #3 and drop a number of announcements for us this next month.

Summer 2018 is about to kick into high gear, and Gorillaz are proving to be the most ready.

With the announcement of their sixth full-length album The Now Now, Damon Albarn has already shared two tracks off the upcoming album: “Humility” (featuring George Benson) and “Lake Zurich.” Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett also created a playful summer jam of a video for “Humility,” starring Jack Black.

The 11-track The Now Now is described by Albarn as “a summer record” that includes cameos from artists like Snoop Dogg and Jamie Principle, but is primarily 2D-centric. Albarn stated, “I thought I should make a record where I’m just singing for once. It’s pretty much just me singing, very sort of in the world of 2-D. I feel really good about it. I feel really really good about it.”

Based on the album’s two teased tracks, it feels as though Gorillaz fans are in for a potentially more upbeat, optimistic listen. Sparing no opportunities for futuristic flairs and psychedelic synth, the band seems ready to strap us in and take us for one hell of a ride.

The Now Now drops on Friday, June 29th. Tickets for the Gorillaz 2018 tour (featuring The Internet and Little Dragon) go on sale Friday, June 8th. Check out the full list of tour dates below.
