Sometimes, for some unknown reason, a wonderful thing happens and amongst all of the generic and tired hooks, riffs, and drops that is the current state of progressive house, a real gem rises like a phoenix and manages to breach the upper reaches of the Beatport Top 10. This month, that gem is undoubtedly Waves; a collaboration between two relatively unknown artists in the US: Dutch hip hop artist, songwriter and producer, Mr. Probz and German DJ and producer, Robin Schulz.

Originally released abroad in the summer of 2013, the track recently caught the attention of US behemoth label, Ultra, thus explaining its current exposure and success in the States. Schulz’s remix manages to maintain the soulfulness and emotional beauty embedded into the vocal of the original version of the song, but adds guitars and a laid back house beat that makes it an automatic front runner for one of this year’s top Spring/Summer dance hits.
