Kygo could very well be considered one of the hottest producers in dance music at the moment. His style has been advertised as tropical house, but to put that into layman’s terms for you, it’s feel-good EDM at it’s finest. With tunes that rely heavily on catchy melodies, easygoing percussion, and noises that sound like they are straight out of The Little Mermaid’s “Under The Sea,” Kygo has had little trouble building an unbelievably loyal audience in a relatively short amount of time.

Currently on his debut tour through North America, I’m sure Kygo has been gaining plenty of new supporters along the way. He made a stop in Chicago during the middle of last week and threw down a Wednesday night set that seemed like it was better suited for a Friday or Saturday. The crowd at The Mid was a very pleasant bunch and I couldn’t even recall the last time this venue hosted a show that had me more excited. Serving up remix after remix, Kygo’s primary goal was clearly to focus on his own productions. So what if the guy’s not a great DJ yet? I’m almost certain that 90% of the music he played came from his archives, so kudos to him for that!

Speaking of Kygo performances, he’s actually got another one in the works that is set to take place this Sunday at Electric Forest. For anybody out there making the trip to Rothbury for the weekend, you would be wise to pencil this second to none producer into your Sunday schedule. Making things even better, he’ll be situated comfortably at the forest stage. I can’t wait to see how receptive the forest-dwelling folks are to his carefree brand of house music.
