In spite of the many notable British acts that have successfully crossed over to the US for several decades now there are still quite a few who have never made any impact on these shores (Westlife, Robbie Williams, Alexandra Burke, anyone?). One of the most popular and critically acclaimed groups who have achieved enormous success in their home country but are undeservedly unheard of in America are Girls Aloud. Formed on the 2002 reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals they are composed of the stunningly beautiful and equally talented Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl Cole, whom you may be familiar with from her brief stint on the US X Factor last year and her subsequent controversial exit.

Over their ten year career the girls have scored twenty consecutive top ten singles in the UK, have scored four number one singles, two number one albums, and have won a Brit Award (the British equivalent of the Grammy) for Best Single in 2009 (The Promise). After the release of their last album Out of Control in 2008 they went on hiatus to concentrate on solo projects and their personal lives, but no one expected that their leave of absence would last three dreadful years!

What many thought would never happen, alas, the girls return a decade after they were originally formed with a new, and hopefully not their final, single. Although, there are no surprises here and no significant changes or updates to their sugary spunky euro-pop sound for many fans (who include the Jonas Brothers, Bono, Chris Martin, and members of the Spice Girls) this will do just fine. The tune comes complete with ‘girl power’-type shouting (“We’re gonna run this show!”), awkward-yet-oh-so-sexy verses reminiscent of their past singles such as Sexy! No No No or the Out of Control album only cut Miss You Bow Wow Wow, euro-dance riffs, and a ‘hands in the air’ chorus that makes you want to well, throw your hands in the air! It’s not just for any reason that the girls’ incredibly sexy vocals lead by the mysterious and gorgeous Nadine Coyle have earned them the Guinness World Record for “The Most Successful Reality TV Group” twice!

Will there be another Girls Aloud album or are the girls only reforming for a one final single only to say goodbye for good? Time will tell, but stranger things have happened. Meanwhile, enjoy the new single and feast your eyes on their past triumphs below, as well.
