Sound Remedy at Smart Bar

By: James Kabat & Kris Kish

It was a cold and rainy Thursday night in Chicago, but inside Smart Bar – the trendy yet never pretentious north side club that has helped shape the careers of such names as Kaskade and Colette – it feels more like fire! That’s because the air is filled with excitement and anticipation for Sound Remedy, one of the city’s very own, whose eclectic sound is garnering more and more attention by the day. Mixing dubstep, trap, house, and hip-hop with his own unique and melodic takes on well known recent hits such as Ellie Goulding’s “Hanging On,” the critically acclaimed electronica of Crystal Castles’ “Baptism” or Imogen Heap’s haunting “Hide and Seek,” he has the crowd going wild for all of his hour and a half set located in the main room of the dark yet pleasant club.

When we asked him earlier what inspires him to create such uplifting and joy-filled sounds he credited the sunny weather of California, the state he currently resides in and creates most of his music. The Sights And Sounds was more than happy to be present at his show as warmth and sunshine can be very missed during the long Chicago winters. So check out our video recap of his performance below, which even included Diplo‘s “Express Yourself,” as Sound Remedy heats up the cool clime of Chicago. (We also got a bit cozy with SR backstage, but you’ll have to tune in to our debut TV episode of ‘The Sights’ – which will air later this month – to see more!)

And not only do you get some great concert coverage today, but as it happens, the LA producer has dropped his smooth new remix of Last Lynx‘s single “Killing Switch.” Full of his unique sound skills and masterful production technique, Sound Remedy drops an explosion of synth and bass underneath soaring vocals proclaiming “My Wonderland!” Ultimately taking you to a wonderland of sound on it’s own, SR proves time and again that the only thing holding him back is his imagination, which is far from held back on this remix. Enjoy “Killing Switch” after the video and head over to Sound Remedy’s Facebook page for a free download!
