Between unctuously holy Ugandans rallying behind the watered down ‘Kill The Gays’ bill (now just life imprisonment can be yours for the sake of one public kiss!) to Arizonans allowing segregation and every business owner to ‘turn away the gay’  it’s been a  tough week to bite one’s tongue.  Luckily, we don’t have to anymore, as KIll J comes out with a massively killer protest song dedicated ‘to the victims of other peoples’ bullshit convictions. People who act sinful, hateful and ungodly in the name of their God’.

And that’s all it really is: hypocritical hatred. As Sochi, the land of ‘no gay people’ and a place where gay people can be arrested for ‘spreading propaganda’ about their lifestyle, erupted into an orgy of olympians fucking every hole that they could find via the mobile dating app Tinder (a straight version of Grindr) no one said a word about the outrage of promiscuity and how that’d affect the children. No one expects a clearly unconstiutional Arizonan law–to deny someone service to your business based off of what you perceive them to be — to stand in court, they just wanted to let gays know they aren’t wanted. Officially on the record and all. And then, Uganda has an Ethics and Integrity Minnister with an obvious anal wreckage fetish–as he’s worried about the anatomical implications of gay sex because, you know,  ‘the walls will not hold’. To what, man, three hands fisting you constantly….sitting on a fire hydrant for fun? It gave great fun to a new phrase though, as my friends put it, ‘bottoming ugandanly’–because we really want to know just what kind of great sex they must be having that this is what they’re worried about.

Oh, I forgot, Uganda….yeah, that place that has Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army that maims, murders and rapes civilians and enslaves children in the name of Christianity. Oh, yeah, that place of holiness is worried about gay people ruining the moral fabric of society.

KIll J calls silence on these issues ‘being a dumbfuck taking the sharp blows’. Each time we let go unchecked  a holier than thou Christian crooning about how they’re right because ‘God told them so’ we’re just feeding their egos. But we’re taught to be tolerant, to be kind to a hateful population that regularly tries to legislate us out of existence like a societal parasite;  but, yeah, no more.

I’m so glad that ‘Bullet’ exists. Like any good protest song it needs to land a sucker punch over beats that aren’t cloying or pandering, with lyrics that ring true from experience and have a rhetorical whit that makes them an assett to troubled people everywhere. ‘Bullet’ succeeds on all fronts, instilling the heart with chillstep and dark pop beats that hit like a verbal assault through the backbone.  “Bullet’s” not going to be leading any parades any time soon, but for those moments of darkness people have at a world that espouses their hate for them, in those moments…this song is a massive injection of empathy.
