before you

This is a true “I want to crawl in a hole and cry myself to sleep for days” breakup song. Nothing wrong with that, some of the best music has been written on a broken heart. This whimsical, angry, yet chill song combines the emotions of blame, distraction, self-loathing, sadness and rejection into an electro pop track – that you’ll just want to have on repeat while staring at the ceiling. We have all felt it at one time, and it beyond blows. And this is the kind of tune that you’re allowed to live inside of while working on your wounded heart.

I went through ‘s new album , Palms, recently and for some reason I kept coming back to this song, “Before You.” Maybe not so much for the lyrics (not going through a breakup over here, got to date for that shit) but because I enjoyed the breeziness of the song while Carousel’s traditional electro pop sound remained at the core of the track. I really value a band that can create a diverse album with a wide range of sounds, beats, tempos, and feelings, while still embodying who they are throughout each and every track. If you’re familiar with Carousel you must already appreciate that trait, because it truly takes talent without becoming repetitive. Palms is to be released on August 7th and can be pre-ordered on itunes now, so do yourself a favor, stop crying and give their other tracks a listen, they are much cheerier I promise.
