[ELECTRONICA] Strange Talk – “Climbing Walls” (Elektromekanik Remix)
When I first heard Strange Talk‘s summery single “Climbing Walls” nearly three years ago, I had just moved to Chicago and was experiencing a sense of true freedom that I hadn’t felt in a while. Akin to the lyrics in the track, “I feel the rays upon me and now the shadows run and hide.” It was a magical feeling living by myself in a big city for the first time. During that time, I must have listened to “Climbing Walls” a hundred thousand times, absorbing the sunny synths and upbeat vocals and channeling them into my new life.
Eventually, the song embedded itself into my memory neurons and now every time I listen to the track, I feel a sense of nostalgia – a longing to again be as carefree in a new city as I once was. That feeling crept up again the other day as I listened to Elektromekanik’s bouncy electronica remix of the single. A bit subdued compared to the original, Elektromekanik’s injects a subtle-yet-driving beat under a canopy of smooth synth work that simultaneously relaxes and energizes – a feeling I often get living in a big city. The remix comes as part of Strange Talk’s remix contest and EP, which you can find out more about via their Soundcloud. Listen and enjoy below.
