[EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW] Diskord Fill Us In On Their Latest Remix

Rising bass talents Diskord have kickstarted the year with a tasty new remix – and it’s one for Swedish duo Vigiland. The original has proved a huge success all across Europe since its release and Universal Music Sweden has snapped up the pair for official reworking duties. We caught up with Diskord to hear more about it from them.

The original version of “UFO” is completely different to what you usually produce; did you enjoy putting a Diskord twist on it?

We usually prefer things that are a long way from our sound when we do a remix, because it gives you the chance to totally redefine the track. So when the original is a totally different genre, that’s the best for us – the Vigiland remix was no exception.

What did you set out to achieve when working on this track?

Really what we were looking to do is convert the energy of the original into something that works with what we play in our sets – and hopefully find something new by playing around with the elements of the original. That’s the most fun for us; taking a sound somewhere totally removed from what it was in the original track.

Tell us a little bit about your studio set up.

It’s pretty basic really – we work off a Macbook, running Logic, and we use Adam A7x monitors which we’re both totally in love with. We’ve both tried pretty much every DAW over the years, Logic is just the best fit for us. We’ve got an iMac running too but all we’ve been using that for is warming up the studio over the winter, and it does a cracking job!

Have you had the chance to play this release out in your live shows, if so what has the reaction been like?

We have, and it’s been going down an absolute storm. Testing our own music is always something we really look forward to about the shows and the UFO remix hasn’t failed us yet!

Will you be looking to rework any other Melbourne bounce tracks in the future?

We’re going to be taking a step back from remixing for a while, because we’ve just finished 3 or 4 in a row and we want to focus on our original material. But we’re open to whatever comes along, and if it’s something we feel like we can put a different spin on, then sure!

What do you have planned for the rest of 2015; can we expect any US shows?

We’ve got a lot of releases coming up, including some pretty high profile remixes that we are super proud of, as well as an EP and some collabs with some of our favourite people in the scene. As for US shows, it’s very high on the agenda and we’re working on making it happen as we speak. So hopefully yes!
