[EXCLUSIVE] Interview with Rising Star Manic Focus at North Coast Music Festival

Reading music:

Minnesota born, Chicago-based producer/DJ Manic Focus is the musical embodiment of John “JmaC” McCarten that is quickly breaking the bounds of typical electronic music. Being classically-trained on piano at an early age, his musical talents have brought him through the realms of hip-hop and electronic music, having now evolved into the dynamic, bass-induced sounds you hear today. If you’re a fan of artists such as Griz, Gramatik, Exmag and Pretty Lights, you’re sure to enjoy the sonic landscape laid down by Manic Focus.

Blazing a path down the increasingly popular electro-soul and funk route, Manic Focus provides a broad array of musical creations, from energized hip-hop hits to tranquil grooves with funky flow. His dark bass lines and popping beats drive the tracks along, while spellbinding melodies and carefully-chosen vocal samples entrance the listener. Having just dropped his third album, Distant Perspective (which you can download for free on ManicFocus.com), Manic Focus is set to gain even more hype as he continues to blow audiences away with his hyped live performances – most of which include appearances by special guests such as Griz and Future Rock.

Check out our exclusive interview with Manic Focus below as we sit down backstage at North Coast Music Festival and chat about his early influences, plants and reincarnation, The Beatles, and Chinese tigers.
