Pulse. It’s the tempo of our life. The speed of our lifestyle. It’s the colors of our glimmering cities at night. It occurs as the seasons change. It’s movement, up and down, side by side. We’re all set in our own rhythm and pace, though it’s not just ours, it is also a part of the bigger heartbeat of our collective cities and all together the world. All at once, we’re experiencing moments of both clarity and confusion, while at the same time speeding head first into the future we’ve thought up for ourselves. It is the path that we’ve found ourselves on, as young ambassadors of the late night groove, the dirty beats, the randomness of the scene, and by the way of that same groove, we have never forgotten the truth in the sounds we hear. The truth that groove isn’t separate from us, nor is pulse, it IS us.

While this may be the first time you’re hearing the truths of LA-based DJ Ruckus Roboticus, I’m positive it won’t be your last after listening through his brilliantly succinct mix of funk, downtempo disco, soul, pop, and just straight-up groove-based jams. In August of 2014, Todd Edwards invited Ruckus to contribute a guest mix on his Scion Radio Show and so the dance lords claimed “Let it be done!” Below is the beautiful mix, brimming with his favorite feel-good grooves, from chill to thrill.

Leading with percussive beauty, heavenly synth melodies, and tracks with only the tightest, busiest bass lines that funk has to offer. Transforming from one song to the next, he takes us on an extremely comfortable and laid back trip through space and time. Including songs from modern kings and queens of disco, while also mixing in the the purveyors of funk and soul, never forgetting while we’re all here dancing to this shit in the first place. The mix clocks in at a quick hour and a half, and yes I mean quick, because once you press play, it’ll be over before you’re ready for it to end. Take it in folks, each and every breath.
