Yeah, you read that title correctly. Purity Ring and Soulja Boy, while an unlikely combination, is just another example of bands working to expand their sound by incorporating and mixing in elements of other genres. And in this case, like in many others, it sees the cover band releasing a much better version than the original.
Choosing instead to put the emphasis of the track on Soulja Boy‘s chorus, Megan James’ vocals have room to soar over the bouncing synths underneath. The verses in this case become merely secondary, acting more as fluid space between the chorus than anything else. The best part about their version of “Grammy”?
