Chicago, you’re in for quite a treat.
While John Mayer frequents the Windy City quite often, it’s usually not without some company. But for the first time in the singer-songwriter’s illustrious career, that’s about to change. You heard that correctly — the Grammy Award-winning musician is preparing to hit the road on his first ever solo arena tour. Starting on March 11th in Newark, Mayer will embark on a nineteen-date run, making stops at select cities across North America with his acoustic guitar before heading to Chicago’s United Center at the end of the month. Mayer, who is still riding a wave of success from his critically-acclaimed 2021 release, Sob Rock, performed at the venue just last year in support of the album. Don’t be mistaken though, it’s still guaranteed to be one to remember.
After all, this 2023 tour has been two decades in the making and is due to feature rare, full acoustic sets from the musician’s expansive catalog. Mayer will be joined by a handful of very talented opening acts for these shows as well, which include the likes of Lizzy McAlpine, Alec Benjamin, Joy Oladokun, and JP Saxe. What draws fans to Mayer’s work is not only his incredible guitar solos, but also his wide-range of producing quality music spanning across multiple genres. And with a history of setlists that include songs from each of his several studio releases, variety is almost never an issue. Since his rise to stardom in the mid-2000’s, Mayer has remained a staple on the charts with countless classics such as “Gravity,” “Daughters,” “Waiting on the World to Change,” and “Your Body Is a Wonderland.” Paired with his bluesy and innovative guitar licks, the musician holds a seemingly-effortless ability to mesmerize each of his vastly diverse audiences, leaving them always wanting to come back for more.
That being said, this is a show that you do not want to miss.
John Mayer’s 2023 Solo Acoustic tour is currently underway, but there’s still plenty of time to purchase tickets before he hits the road one final time with Dead & Company this summer. Be sure to check Mayer’s official website to stay updated on info and availability for your city.
