[SYNTHPOP] Chlöe Howl – “No Strings” (Brolin Remix)

“You don’t even know me, but you’re saying you love me.” Rather than being a creepy sentiment (ok, well, to the none effusively romantic in the world), in this Brolin remix of Chlöe Howl’s “No Strings”, that sentiment is one of stark beauty. Simmering the original in a sumptuous recipe of 2010esque synths and reducing its lyrical ingredients down to a few poignant lines, Brolin’s take on “No Strings” makes the song feel like naked food for the soul.

The lyrics that linger in his version are all about unsheathing the heart from its multilayered protective barriers and letting a near stranger in on a world inside you everyone didn’t even know you had. It’s the musical equivalent of opening your trenchcoat and flashing a consenting partner.  Sure, there’s much to fear from exposing naked the giblets and breasts of that intimate side of you you keep locked away, and sure your partner could easily spurn//burn your openness, but Brolin never gives you any indication that could happen.

His arrangement turns the song into one of deep, disabling, comfort. And it’s another example of just how wonderfully talented and moody of a producer Brolin is. Follow him on Soundcloud and Facebook to hear more.
