Just last year, the Los Angeles based surf rockers Allah-Las released their highly anticipated—and masterfully delievered— third record, Calico Review. Not long after this wave of success has the band hit the studio for a new project. Reportedly at the Pump House studio of Topanga Canyon Allah-Las has been preparing a new wave of tunes—this time reworking a collection that is not their own.  These reworked covers will create a new EP series launching on Nov. 3 via Mexican Summer. The first set’s been dubbed simply, Covers #1.

“The selections are comprised of a combination of old favorites and newly discovered tracks,” the band told Consequence of Sound in a statement.
Covers #1 is set to consist of four tracks. The songs include George Harrison’s “Fish on the Sand”, “JO Eleven” from the ’90s indie rock band Further, and an unreleased track off of Television’s Marquee Moon sessions titled “Hard On Love”.

Most notably, the first track that’s available off the forthcoming EP is “The Earth Won’t Hold Me” by Kathy Heideman, from the early ’70s.  Allah-Las’ Matthew Correia delivers the track with immense grace, incorporating the band’s quintessential psychedelic, “The Earth Won’t Hold Me,” takes on a whole new elegance hinting at a carefully crafted collection of tracks arriving shortly.
