Grizzly Bear has officially awaken from hibernation.

Following the release of cryptic teasers on the band’s social media leading up to the sharing of their first track in five years, the indie rock outfit has announced they are here to stay with their fifth studio album Painted Ruins out August 18th.

The album announcement comes complete with a world tour and new track, ‘Mourning Sound’.

The track, while upbeat and straight to point, holds its own, proving that yes, after all these years Grizzly Bear’s layered tunes still hold a place in the indie-rock realm.

Grizzly Bear

“I made a mistake / I never should’ve tried,” sings Edward Droste in the opening lines of the latest track, followed by a crisp bass line the group resides on for the remainder of the tune.

‘Mourning Sound’ while more straightforward and less intricate than the group’s additional recent track ‘Three Rings‘, is sprinkled with synths and elegant guitar plucks echoing the band’s trademark sheen.

‘Mourning Sound’ maintains the quintessential Grizzly Bear idyllic harmony, while the lyrics bring forth what may be interpreted as a fatalistic dispostion.

“LET LOVE AGE,”

Droste sings.

“AND WATCH IT

BURN OUT AND DIE.”

Painted Ruins is slated for a late summer release on August 18th via RCA.
