And these little things define you forever, forever.  We brought a knife to the heart fight of our friendship, but we didn’t become blood brothers. We didn’t bind together,  we didn’t cut our fingers in solidarity. Losing you, was like cutting off one of my limbs. But I’m stubborn enough to stumble around spraying my wound at you like acid, even though this bad blood between us amounts only to acrid words.

These lyrics never hit with any impact until Lido touched them. Bastille have a knack for creating the bones of some really great tracks, but they gloss over the grit and grime that inhabit the world of their lyrics.  It’s why they’re a band I only stomach remixed (another example of this would be the insanely sweet Sanebeats remix of “Things We Lost In The Fire”). I’m sure this is some post-Icarus method to mass appeal–never fly too close to the sun anymore and you heat up, but you never run the risk of going nuclear hot; but it doesn’t make for a satiating listen. But on Lido’s ‘Bad Blood’ we feel all the righteous melodrama of the ramifications of your calloused heart.  It’s inventive and swirls with enough demanding, emotional percussive elements to feel like a call to action and the soundtrack to your fleeing. Lido doesn’t even break a sweat morphing the song into that complexity, and Bastille could learn a thing or two from it going forward.
