The Chicago native duo, Light Em Up, has time and time again shown us that every genre of music can start a fire. In this edition of their genre based mix series, Classic House,  the boys light up the airwaves with the grooviest collection of house music this side of an Afro Sheen commercial. Don’t get me wrong most of these tunes come from Zebo & PHNM‘s musical genesis of the 80s and 90s but the the disco vibe that helped build the foundation for house music is very much present.

The mix is just as much interesting to listen to, as it is pleasurable. You will find that many of the sounds used and time signatures contained in these “old” tracks have not only remained constant but in the past year since Disclosure mainstreamed garage house, have become more and more popular. What is important to note is that since its creation house music has always been and will always be popular, it’s only now widely accepted because of the mainstream electronic music takeover in America that has been occurring the last ten years. There is a reason for this, a reason why house music is fad proof.

You see, house music only gets better once it’s pushed underground for the next big thing. The genre thrives off the underground. It is a timeless groove that can be anything you need; a open format dance equation where the result is freedom of expression. That’s why this mix gives you the feeling you get while walking home from your last day of school before summer break. It’s safe to say that Light Em Up‘s Zebo & PHNM have successfully paid homage to the roots that helped them carve their unique taste in music.
