Self-Taught Violinist, Vocalist, & Producer Sudan Archives Reimagines Violin On “Come Meh Way”
//VIOLIN REIMAGINED//
Sudan Archives is a musical project by the self-taught violinist, vocalist, and producer Brittney Denise Parks.
Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio Parks was blessed with a rich musical experience early on in life. At just eight years old she began playing the violin in a variety of choirs for school and church. Her debut EP – Golden City – was self-produced, an experience admittedly done an Ipad in her parent’s basement combining her love for Sudanese fiddlers, R&B, West African rhythms, and experimental electronic music. Just two years later, she’s releasing her first full-length album, the self-titled – Sudan Archives – via LA-based label Stones Throw Records.
Her latest track “Come Meh Way,” flows between short bursts on a fiddle, smooth riffs, tambourines complementing her violin, and a melody consisting of warped synths, handclaps, and light percussion. This combination offers some insight into Parks’ preferences as a producer and the unlimited number of possibilities for her EP on the way.
The self-titled EP release via Stones Throw is expected later this fall.
