[DARK OXYGEN] Dark Pop Soundcast #6: ‘Loner Doesn’t Look For Love’ Edition
[DARK OXYGEN] is a periodic series at the Sights and Sounds where I collect a dark star explosion of the best dark indietronica out there. Dark pop gets a bad rap for being dramatic, but it’s all about being effortlessly cool. It’s also a respite in the world for the weird kids. A lot of people can’t breathe in the black hole spaces that moody, sexual, slightly deranged and aspirational pop creates; but if you’re as big a fan of the genre as I am, you know dark pop can replace the air you breathe, like [DARK OXYGEN]
Each soundcast will feature popular and up and coming artists who bring that dichotomous feeling of cinematic tragedy and heartbreaking hope to their music. This time:
KALI LUCHIS// LONER
I just gotta put it out there
I don’t put myself out there
I stay tucked away
I’d rather be a loner
I was a loner until I met your head
CLUB CHEVAL// DISCIPLINE
Do you know what it feels like to dance alone?
Do you know what it feels like?
Do you know what it looks like from the outside?
Won’t you get up
Shake in the darkness
Living for the moment
Party all night long
That’s all we know
I never give a damn about
What they say
Never let them stand in your way
T.A.T.U.// ALL THE THINGS SHE SAID (HEMSWORTH’S SORRY LOL EDITION)
YEARS AND YEARS// KING (UNTIL THE RIBBON BREAKS RE-IMAGINATION)
PLOY// HARD TO SAY
NATIVE SPIRIT// IN MY HEAD
Whatever happened to being there
All that’s left of you in my head
Is the feeling’s that I’ve lost
I keep what I have in my heart
In my head.
