It’d be mad to reminisce on the post 9/11 punk revival in New York City without one lamenting on Australian outfit the Liars— in particular— their 2001 record They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top.

Led by the lanky and widely-regarded punk rock sex symbol Angus Andrew, Liars took the city by storm. They Threw Us All in a Trench . . . , was a fucking art-damaged mess,  and yet a seminal boundary pushing piece of the limelight post-punk. Like The Rapture before them or the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Interpol, The FUCKING Stokes, etc… The Liars had quite the reputation in the early 2000’s, all while remaining outsiders to the scene until the YYY’s began to cover their tracks. Riding the curtails of the U.K. post-punk era (circa 1981), chasing the beat of bands like Delta 5 and the Slits, Liars were in your face.

Of course, The Liars have—to put it in perspective—sounded radically different with each album moving forward, tackling new landscapes, relaying different mindsets as they go.

But on TFCF— Liars’ upcoming eighth studio album—the band’s dropped its bustling backdrops of LA, Berlin, and New York. Replaced them with something far more intimate and autobiographical as they yet again embark boldly on a journey beyond comfort zone.

Liars

Liar’s new record is titled TFCF (short for Themes From Crying Fountain), and due out August 25th through Mute Records. TFCF serves as the follow-up to 2014’s Mess and will be the first release for frontman Angus Andrew as the sole previous member of the outfit.  Andrew himself has said of the record that it’s ridden with acoustic guitar.  “How ridiculous is that,” he went on in a press release.

Earlier this year the Liars offered up their first track in three years entitled,  “Cred Woes.” Now the group has two new tracks they’re serving up titled “Coin In My Caged Fist,” and  “The Grand Delusional,” alongside incredibly unique bush-themed artwork to preclude all the madness that is to come.

Take a listen to the new music or check out the ridiculous yet oddly satisfying bush-themed artwork below.
