There has been some interesting collaborations this year, (most notably in my book, Insane Clown Posse and Jack White) but when I heard that former The Velvet Underground star Lou Reed and seminal LA rockers Metallica were going to join forces for an album, I was stoked. Dropping November 1st, Lulu should be highly anticipated by all you rockers out there. But don’t get your hopes up too high just yet. After previewing the first song, “The View,” released off the album, I’m a bit underwhelmed. The Metallica part is all there, shredding guitars and screaming rock vocals, but unfortunately it sounds like Lou Reed decided to revert back to a bad talent show at a state fair. The sing-talk vocals of Mr. Reed sound entirely off over the hard guitars of Metallica. “The View” takes a step in the right direction when Metallica front man James Hetfield takes over the vocal reigns, his voice and attitude more fit for the track. I’m hoping the rest of the album fairs better than this track. Take a listen below.
