Welcome to The Daily Swim, a new feature on The Sights and Sounds to bring you as much new music as we can. As a daily swimmer, water has always served as a dichotomy to my psyche – wholly and unswervingly calming in it’s vast simplicity yet at the same time able to harness and create massive amounts of energy. Which is exactly the type of music The Daily Swim will feature – no fuss posts with tracks from great producers that serve as both calming and energizing to get you through the deep end of your day.

Today’s Daily Swim comes to us from New York with Expensive Look‘s chilled out, synth drenched single “Idol.” A track that reminds me of getting lost amidst the good vibes of summer, the airy vocals of “Idol” paired with the almost tropical-style beat has me longing to jump back into the ocean and just swim away into the sunset.

Expensive Looks makes loopingly dark dance music set over his hypnotic vocals. Think of a darker Delorean or a more joyful Empire of the Sun. As the solo project of New Yorker Alec Feld, Expensive Looks has released two full-lengths to date: 2012’s Dark Matters on the tastemaking Group Tightener label, and Haçienda, released on Feld’s imprint Altitude earlier this year. Now Expensive Looks returns with the Northern Winds EP, set to be released May 7.
