Burning Man, it’s a place of craziness, eccentricity, love, friendship, hardship, support, community, and mystery. It’s whatever you want it to be, really. But what makes the playa especially extraordinary is it’s ability to seamlessly weave all these things together into one cohesive experience that laser etches itself into your psyche, to be forever remembered in moments of nostalgia and wistfulness. It’s the ‘didn’t-expect-that-to-happen’ moments and the people we spend it with that amplifies the experience to even greater heights. And it’s these journeys that we wish to explore in our short film “Hear Here Unicorn”.
This year, The Sights And Sounds Media is teaming up with a supremely talented group of characters to produce and shoot a short-film narrative on the playa. Burning Man has given us the official Green Light – quite rare for short narratives shot at the festival – the script is written, the cast is chosen, and the locations set. All we need is a little help from YOU! We are reaching out to our community to help us achieve our goal of shooting the best film we can and here’s how you can help:
The Premise:
An Iraq war veteran on the road to recovery spends his first day at Burning Man on a wild goose chase for hearing-aid batteries. On his mission through The Playa, a sage known as “Unicorn” acts as a catalyst for his journey within. Our goal is to tell a story of human connection through the theme of BM’s first principal: Radical Inclusion.
For those of you who have not experienced BURNING MAN personally, Wikipedia describes it as, “A week long event in which community gathers in the desert, “THE PLAYA”, to practice the 10 principles of Burning Man… The event is described as an experiment in Community, Art, Radical Self-expression, Inclusion and Radical Self-reliance.”
