By this time of year, your friends’ Burning Man photos are a dime a dozen.

When it comes to festival photography and portraits, capturing the ‘essence’ of a human can be a challenging endeavor. I know because I’ve been doing it for more than 6 years.

Overcoming the emotional barriers into someone’s inner life is a challenge. Getting someone to expose their vulnerabilities, love, sexuality, primacy, urges, and desires is difficult even for couples.

But Matan’s lens, if not Matan himself, seems to pull that inner self out of people. His lens a temporary portal into one’s own soul, reflecting their true beauty and vulnerability back at you.

And what better place to capture the beauty of humanity than at Burning Man – a place where style, glamor, and dusty inner discovery run rampant. A place where men in bikinis, mechanical dragons, mystics, and muses also run rampant.
