Alas, Miami Music Week is but a mere week away, with Ultra Music Festival trailing closely behind. When it comes to music, The Sights and Sounds takes great joy in discovering the diamonds in the rough. While Ultra’s biggest claim to fame is certainly its massive main stage – which features acts like DJ Snake, Major Lazer, and Above & Beyond – there is much more to be discovered in the deep corners of Ultra’s infrastructure. These massive acts tend to occupy most of the physical space of the festival, and are incredible in their own right, but auxiliary stages are often overlooked by festival goers. 7. KÖLSCH

Danish Native Rune Reilly Kölsch, also known simply as Kölsch, is making a quick breakout into the world wide techno scene.  Kölsch’s seminal release of ‘1977’ in 2013 destroyed the fabric of genre norms and challenged its listeners to dig deeper. This Danish techno maestro is set on rewriting the rulebook on techno production, forsaking perverse technicality for intimately arranged synth lines that draw listeners in slowly and melodically. Kölsch’s music tells a tale, one that must be heard in person. 6. WAFF B2B NATHAN BARATO

As if we didn’t love back to back sets enough as it is, Ultra had to go and put two of tech house’s hardest hitting heavy weights head to head for one hour of pure unadulterated tech house bliss. The two DJs are both signed to Hot Creations, a record label co-owned by Lee Foss and Jamie Jones. If there is any back to back set to catch during Ultra, this is it. 5. JACKMASTER

Jackmaster is widely renowned for his eclectic knowledge of electronic music and his tactical precision when it comes to the art of the DJ set. Jack Revill, known by his stage name Jackmaster, grew up DJing clubs in Glasgow, one of the worlds most prominent clubbing cities. At age 16 he worked full time at Rubadub record shop in Glasgow, it was there that Revill was given the nickname “Jackmaster,” a reference to the popular term coined in the Chicago house music scene in the 80s. 4. MARCEL DETTMAN

Marcel Dettman is known within the world of techno as one of the most influential proponents of contemporary techno. In 1999 Dettmann began to work as a resident DJ at Ostgut, Berghain’s predecessor. Dettman is constantly on the quest for fresh and innovative influences which he can use to diversify his already dense palette. As one of the faces of Berghain in Berlin, Dettman has a certain level of prestige that is unmatched. Check him out at 7:30 on Saturday.

3. HOT SINCE 82

Mixmag has described Hot Since 82’s ascension as one that has been “meteoric,” and for good reason. The British house DJ has been making music under the moniker Hot Since 82 since 2012 and has since formed his own label, Knee Deep In Sound. Over the past few years he has released hits like “Veins/Damange,” “Yourself,” and “Damage.” His ubiquitous accessibility makes him a must see for lovers of all genres, and considering his repertoire, his set on the Resistance stage is bound to be massive. 2. EATS EVERYTHING

Eats Everything is known for his ability to span genres on an almost regular basis. The English DJ and producer has collaborated with Worthy, Justin Martin, and Tiga among others. Eats has been known to play back to back with DJs like Seth Troxler, Justin Martin, and Ricky Ahmed. His back to back set with Seth Troxler at CRSSD Festival is getting a fair amount of buzz, with many claiming it was the best set of the weekend. 1. DUBFIRE

Dubfire is one of the few DJs whose accomplishments in the commercial domain are only outmatched by his accolades in the underground scene. The DJ and producer is one half of the duo known as Deep Dish, which picked up a GRAMMY at the height of their artistic success. Dubfire is the founder of the SCI+TEC label which showcases premium releases and throws massive events worldwide. Dubfire is never satisfied with the status quo. At a pivotal point in his career, Dubfire began to craft his live show concept known as HYBRID which made its debut at the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2014. Dubfire is certainly on the most unique and powerful artists we have ever witnessed live and his set on the Resistance stage is sure to be the best of the weekend. Check him out at 9:55 on Saturday.
