If you’re in Chicago this weekend and want to catch the very last bits of summer, head over to Estate Ultra Bar to hear one of Toronto’s biggest DJ/producers Sydney Blu’s set. The extended 5-hour extravaganza is brought to you by our friends at Vested Recordings and Primary Presents and is sure to be the icing on the cake to what has been a pretty amazing summer season! In preparation for the event, we quickly caught up with the Blu Music head honcho to see what’s new up her sleeve.
We last spoke to you in the beginning of the year. Aside from releasing the Jackrabbit EP and successfully executing your Blu Parties in Detroit and Toronto, what have you been up to?
Sydney Blu: I’m still curating the Blu Party monthly or bi-monthly. I’ve been traveling and writing music non-stop; the usual!
Your first release on Hot Since 82‘s Knee Deep in Sound label is being released on October 13th. Tell us more about the exciting track!
SB: It’s called Mind Games and I’m really excited to be releasing with them because Hot Since 82 is one of my favorite artists on the planet right now! It’s coming out for the Amsterdam Dance Event.
This weekend you’re back in Chicago for a second time this year, but this will be your first time playing Chicago’s largest rooftop venue, Estate Ultra Bar. Can you tell us what we can expect from your set?
SB: I’m playing for five hours so it’ll be a journey. Expect tech house, house, and some deep stuff. It will be great to play a long set; I love them!
The year is quickly coming to a close. What release or moment are you most proud of so far?
SB: My proudest moment would probably be The Blu Party Miami and Detroit. Also, this Knee Deep in Sound release is a big one! I also released a track on VIVA Music this year, Steve Lawler‘s label.
What’s the best cure for end of summertime blues?
SB: I don’t have summertime blues since I’m a pretty positive person, but I would say get out there and enjoy the music anytime you can!
