Walking through the city, wind whipping at my face,  I speed up my pace.  I have to do that every once in awhile because I’m trying to outrun my thoughts. They are hanging around the corners of my mind, corrupted versions of their former glory, waiting to bask in the sun if only they can turn the light of my thoughts into dark stars.  And I walk by the alley that we leaned against those walls, pressed bodies and your breath baiting me, your phermones calling out for me to use you shoulderfor a pillow. Shudder. And now those thoughts are empowered. Run, motherfucker, run.

You have a broken soul
A wandering heart, that falls apart

It makes me shudder.

Let’s be clear: so do I, so am I.  We were the broken ones, traipsing with nuclear footsteps all over each other’s hearts. And the power of those moments, the call to relive that explosive first kiss.  Fuck, it makes me shudder.  You’ve ruined me, but reconnecting would be my Chernobyl.  Still your memory makes me shudder.

Basecamp’s original was amazing, but the melodies may have masked some of this song’s power–focused, as they were, on holding onto strings of strength keeping you tied together. But on the Goodnight Cody remix, the buildup is sublime–second only to Phoria’s ‘Emanate’ this year–and all the strings are cut. It creates one massive bit of dark indietronica that you’ll feel in your bones, just as they all start spilling out of your body in tow with all.the.emotions. as well.
