That wintry voice warning you you’re not a fuckup. The arrangement that feels like a sleeping bag in the expansive tundra. Yeah, I know this track: it’s one that has me fighting for fetal position in the corner of the couch, howling whispered barbs at myself. Then realizing I should be on my own side, goddamnit. It makes no two bones about anything, because it’s solemn synths shatter structure.

Living in a world of polar opposite jet streams of thought swirling around you is a pretty sweet place to be. All you got to do is fiond the little place between the two and stand in it like a hug as the chaos swirls around you. Stepping outside it, making a decision to force life and its attendant anachronisms is really whee shit goes awry.

On “Moving Away”, Jade Blue thrives in that middle ground. I get the feeling–from experience–he has no problem exploiting the hell out of life on that sliver of thought he calls land. The track’s production acts like a refuge in the squalor of sea, mixing dramatic orchestral-esque synths with a steady, sombre beat. For most of its running time you’re left standing firm as the waves try to wash you away, with the lyrics trying to no avail to turn mantra like rhythm into conviction.

And then he shouts. Or the synths do rather. But as you give the songs few spins, you know the synths are his voice, his actual vocals corrupted y history; and his voice beats against the sky at 3:37 it feels glorious. It’s like washing away safety and embracing chaos. Suddenly, the space of dichomoties feels every bit of small that it is, the ‘refuge’ a prison. Time to move the fuck away, yo.
