[DARK INDIETRONICA] MØ – Don’t Wanna Dance (Zimmer Remix)
Impatiently, I’ve been tapping my feet and waiting for someone to turn this into self-empowerment anthem. There were always two egregious lines in the original track: the slightly racist, galling reference to how the sweatiness of a bad boy‘s pheromones ‘makes me wanna tear my white skin apart’; and then, of course the absolute ruination of the line ‘Don’t Wanna dance with nobody’ followed by ‘….but you’. Come on, don’t ruin a track already with the potential to be leagues better than the already excellent ‘Solo Dancing’ by Indiana with some complacently written in romance. 90% of my enjoyment of MØ comes from her fierce solitude.
But Zimmer omits both those, and suddenly the track lifts the fuck off. Replete with addictive, smooth beats and the addition of dark indietronica tricks like distorted moans that ooze sexual independence, in Zimmer’s hands ‘Dance With Nobody turns into a summer anthem for those of us who want to control a dancefloor through the sensuality of our bodies, the power of one wanton look poured out over a club of faces.
