I heard that guitar riff and I knew immediately where to place it. Granted, it’s a bit beefed up, but its the same, a callback to The Pass’ “Colours’. Which I count as one of the saddest. yet enigmatically hopeful, riffs of all time. Maybe because of my personal history, but if my music writing is to show anything it’s that personal histories should float to the forefront of our consciousness’ when we experience the bones of songs.  But that riff always felt like the opening salvo of realizing the logical conclusion that, ultimately, in the grand scheme of all the beings that shit around the planet (like, everyone), I don’t mean much to other people (if anything at all). With that came the advent of freedom in my life that allowed me to always skip town in peace , but also the genesis of an incurable melancholy. Freedom is a fucking double edged sword deep throating you.

Belgian band Ulysse’s “Wounds” has the same feeling of “Colours”,  just a few thousand kilometres down the road.  It feels road warrior strong and weary. It fights for space in the life of others, realizing that there are wounds to be had to, at least ostensibly, muscle your way back into the orbits, but maybe not the gravities of others.  It’s rich with a smattering of genres all melded into one blissful hymnal on loneliness. You can check out their whole EP, “U as in Ulysse’ on their Soundcloud. And do yourselves a favour, and, uh, do eeet. They are one of my favorite finds of the year.
