“It’s a nice day to start again.”
– Billy Idol, “White Wedding”
It’s a nice night to start again. Cheers night owls, batmans, daredevils, hackers, and after party attackers. Always been a night person. I think it comes from my fascination with hackers and back when I was a kid I spent countless all nighters tinkering with Legos, playing video games, and teaching myself how to do things with computers other people definitely did not know how to do. Always to the sounds of music, though. It’s changed over the years, but my all nighters always have a playlist. A playlist with heart – a deep beating pulse that drives the night forward through to sunrise. It fuels them – that, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. And music. As the late, great Hunter S. Thompson said:
“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.”
