Founded in Sacramento just last year, Department of Sound has already become a powerhouse non-profit organization fostering music education through its after school programming. Offering a wide variety of music workshops, Department of Sound sparks a passion for music and the arts among the local community. Already raising over $100,000, the non-profit organization inspires youth to pursue music and entertainment as an extracurricular hobby, creative outlet, collaborative activity and/or career.

Given the social distancing orders put into effect earlier this year, this summer the organization recently pivoted its format to offer free online courses. Starting on June 22nd, Department of Sound converted their introductory program focusing on the basics of music and podcast production into a series called Summer of Sound. In partnership with Soundtrap, A Spotify Company, Summer of Sound delivered a self-paced program that students can finish at any point leading up to September 22nd. The complete details of their structure and programming can be found on their website.

The program is made possible through Department of Sound’s technology partnership with Soundtrap, A Spotify Company, which functions as a collaborative platform to produce music online. The organization believes that music and technology can empower youth through creative self-expression. In these challenging times, Department of Sound is happy to deliver joy to any and all youth with a profound interest in the arts.
