It’s a genuine joy to explain our feelings on the new LP from multi-talented producer MUST DIE! Out now via Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint, ‘Death & Magic’ is an explosive, beautiful collection of ten tracks. MUST DIE!, otherwise known as Lee Bates, has seen a meteoric rise to attention over the past couple of years, having been snapped up by Never Say Die and releasing a string of impressive singles alongside his ‘Fever Dream’ EPs. This album feels like it marks a turning point in the American artist’s career, and in his own words, “It’s both an opportunity to release music on a grand scale, and an opportunity to really hone my craft.”

It certainly covers a wide range of styles throughout its length – whether it’s the aggressive rhythmical energy of ‘Pay Me’ featuring Mantis or the explorative electronic synth and string work on ‘Star Throne.’ Whilst dubstep/trap hybrid ‘Hellcat’ might be an obvious favourite, we’re overwhelmed by more the classically-tinged ‘Feathers’ and stuttering bass notes on ‘Project Ghost.’ In terms of collaborations, ‘Zipper’ features both fellow dubstep icon Datsik and the Ragga Twins, whilst ‘Filter System’ features Descender and the vocals of Tkay add further fuel on ‘Imprint.’

We truly love this album – it’s a passionate journey through the music that MUST DIE! is hugely talented at making. You can pick up a copy of the album here.
