Two brand new tracks have quietly made their way onto the internet yesterday as the usually outspoken Deadmau5 leaked “Suckfest9001” and “You There?” via his Soundcloud. Amidst his recent engagement breakup with Kat Von D, perhaps the Mau5 just didn’t want the attention. Either way, we see a return to Joel Zimmerman’s earlier sounds in the two, 7-minute singles.

“Suckfest9001” brings back the early complextro sounds that brought Deadmau5 some of his early smash hits. Keeping with that structure, the syncopated synth work bangs on the first three counts before breaking down into a driving triplet beat. The track resolves some of it’s tension part way through the journey as Joel fades in the shimmering synths and tones down the bass line before ripping back into the meat of the track.

“You There?” drives with more of a house-y, robotic beat that cuts off into nothing before a shadowy voice summons the track back into existence with three words: “Are you there?” The track continues to build, beautifully layering textures that churn and eventually evolve into a trance-like production.
