[EVENT COVERAGE] Gettin Down with The Dead & Co. by Austin A. Allen
Dead & Company have been touring the U.S. since June 10 and have been bringing the deadheads together once again. I was lucky enough to catch their act on July 9th at the historic Alpine Valley venue in Wisconsin. If you ever get a chance to check out Alpine Valley I must warn you be careful! If there is one thing that shocked me it would have to be the security at Alpine. However, what I witnessed inside the actual venue was pure bliss. People of all shapes and sizes, young and old, dancing and smiling to the iconic melodies constructed by Dead & Company.
There has been a lot of talk about John Mayor and his contributions to The Dead; you either like him or you don’t. Personally, I loved it. His voice carries a soft but strong tone that adds a fresh sound to rest of The Dead. He is a very skilled musician as well and orchestrated some amazing riffs that blended perfectly with the rest of the instruments on stage.
All in all, Dead & Company put on a spectacular show on that Saturday at Alpine Valley and I cannot wait until I get to catch them again. The vibe throughout the venue was something powerful, something unforgettable and I don’t think I’ll be able to feel something as unique as that within any other show or festival. Now-a-days there are few historic musicians left to see live, Dead & Company are still truckin’ and show no signs of slowing. There is such an interesting congregation of individuals that inhabit those shows you just gotta poke around- you just gotta.
