[SYNTHWAVE] North Coast Music Festival Artist Preview – Com Truise

I have to admit to not listening to much of New York native producer Com Truise in the past. There is so much music out there that it’s tough to listen to all of it. But that’s the beauty of these posts: we both get introduced to new artists and sounds from the upcoming North Coast Music Festival.

Now residing in New Jersey, Com Truise is just one of many projects for producer and designer Seth Haley. Making music for nearly a decade, Seth has also been heard under the pseudonyms Sarin Sunday, SYSTM, and Airliner. Under the Com Truise name, Seth is making experimental music that is a bit hard to sum up in one or two words. A lover of the synth, which is a mainstay in his sound, Com Truise labels his music as “mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk.” Call it what you want, the experience of listening to Com Truise is a somewhat trippy one, losing yourself in the mellow, drowned out electronic sounds of drums and synths.

Com Truise’s debut came in the form of the Cyanide Sisters EP, which was distributed for free on the AMdiscs label. Following it up with the single “Pyragony/Trypyra,” and a series of podcast mixes entitled “Komputer Cast,” Seth’s Com Truise project now sits comfortably amidst the rising, and often eclectic, EDM scene. Check out some of his sounds below, including his most recent remix of ZZ Ward’s “Criminal” featuring Freddie Gibbs. Another stand out track for me was his remix of Foster The People’s “Helena Beat.” If you want a more mellow, tranced out moment at North Coast, make sure you carve out a piece of your day for Com Truise performing on Sunday, September 2.
