Washed Out‘s Ernest Greene has followed up his 2017 full-length with his first new single, now streaming exclusively via Adult Swim’s Single Series.

After an enticing deliverance on Mister Mellow, where Greene archetypally wallows in equal parts euphoria and psychedelia — even managing to drop off a visually stunning counterpart to the new LP while he’s at it — the artist’s dove back into the nostalgia waters he wades so very well.

“Face Up” absorbs its listener with its seventies-reminiscent air, like a polaroid’s layers of light-sensitive grains rearrange on a plastic sheet to form a complete image. Transitioning with ease from the indietronica side Greene has come to align himself with, now, he gravitates towards the dream pop which seems to inspire him, ultimately ensuring that no matter which side of the artist we see, his music will continue to shine on.
