[PREMIERE] LAPA’s ‘Spirit Vessel’ Blurs Borders And Transcends Boundaries
We all know and love Emancipator for his downtempo ambience; today we pay tribute to an important piece of his ensemble.
Meet LAPA, the touring violin virtuoso and electronic producer. On Friday, Feb. 16, keep an eye out for his sophomore LP, “Spirit Vessel,” which will be released through Emancipator’s Loci Records. Catch an exclusive listen below before it’s release tomorrow!
The Russian-born musician (also known as Ilya Goldberg) has been recording the album over the past year and a half, using a variety of live instruments to create genuine quality work. You can expect to experience a symphonic dream throughout the nine tracks that highlight drums and percussion, electric bass, violin, charango, mandolin, vibraphone and synthesizers.
“I believe that every piece of art is in some way a direct reflection of artists inner and outer worlds,” LAPA says. “Spirit Vessel is no exception. I found myself thinking of nature, friends, my dogs, west coast where I live, different cultures around the world, time, meditation, and celebration of life.”
Two singles off “Spirit Vessel” have been premiered so far— “Dropping Bows” and “Stokia.” The latter number features Random Rab, who I’ve been super into lately following the Lightning in a Bottle lineup.
LAPA prides on the fact that the two of them are inspired by an array of sounds from around the world. On the other hand, he collaborated with renowned percussionist Cedar Miller to bring “Dropping Bows” to life. Miller has voyaged the planet to study with master drummers from a myriad of traditions.
