Shield in front of your heart, feet firmly planted on the ground, and a weary, grim smile towards the horizon: that’s daily life for those who find themselves having to be warriors for their own existence. And Aosoon’s new acoustic track “Under” is their anthem. Hell, what am I talking about? It’s not just ‘their’ track, it’s mine as well. More often than not in my life, I’ve been locked in my own shell in this ‘crazy world’ telling myself that I “better keep [my] spears up.”

But that’s not what my life is all about. And even when it is, that fighting stance is only a fraction of my mind at work—I mean, it’s almost just a decoy for the real mental energy at work. Which is why what I like best about this Aosoon track, is that unlike a lot of anthems which are entirely outwardly focused (me vs. the world), “Under” let’s you into the inner mind of the warrior. “Under” lets you feel every step in the process as she ‘goes under’ refusing ‘not to come up’ and she turns ‘reality into her make believe’. By the time she exhorts you to just breathe and exhale, thereby focusing again on the world around you (and the normal domain of anthems), it’s such an earned sigh that it can’t help but warm your heart.
