[ELECTRO/DANCE] Robert DeLong - "Global Concepts" & "Happy"

Imagine a one-man band. No, not the kind wearing all instruments strapped to their back and feet. Instead imagine in a video game controller, keyboard, steel drum, MIDI interface system, youthful lyrics, and a slab of orange face paint thrown in an EDM blender. Confused yet? I understand. At first my friends and I looked at each and were like “What the fuck is this guy doing”? The sounds he surrounds himself within create an atmosphere one could expect to come from 5 people. That’s for you: epitomizing the immersive concert experience, to somehow perfectly create his own music scene all by himself.

For example, “Global Concepts” is absolute body moving, forget your day, raise your hands in the air, living in the moment song. “I see the people that I use, see the substances I abuse, the ugly places that I lived. Did I make money? Was I Proud? Did I play my songs too loud? Did I leave my life to chance? Or did I make you fucking dance?” From the moment Robert DeLong came on stage he lived by those words and entranced the crowd into dance, and of which I was victim.

“Happy” cranks up the volume and pace, while still pumping the room with the feeling of pure happiness and bliss. Just one look around the audience I realized how most people in that moment were intoxicated with smiles. The title of this track states just that.

His music on its own, yeah it’s awesome, but I appreciate it so much more seeing what goes into it, and being able to relive that every time I put on one of his tracks. It seem like everyone these days is a DJ, or musician, and good for them, but Robert Delong is raising the bar to, and truly transforming how we think of music and performances. I applaud his talent and can’t wait to see what is to come from him and how he changes the scene. He will be at Lollapalooza this year so dont miss him if you have the chance!

If you enjoyed his music as much as I did, check out more of his sounds on Facebook and Soundcloud.
