Don’t let the title fool you: this song isn’t a hymnal. Well, except to yourself. I’m sure Raury has a respect for the greater forces at be, but they’re shouting silently in support while the world is tearing at your limbs just because they’re a different color. Lot of good, that.
Best to go it alone. You won’t silence your critics by being your own saviour; but at least you won’t be trying to drown them out by overextending your neck in hopes to press your ear hard enough against the sky for an answer. Because “God’s Whisper’ is about one-on-one, a heart to heart with a heart that acts as warrior and muse.

Raury writes that this song is about,
“my intuition, my natural calling in life is what God’s whisper is. When I say, ‘I am the savior,’ I’m spreading that message to others. You have that whisper to you. You have your intuition. You have your own natural calling that you have to trust and follow[.]”
That quote made my year. Suddenly, someone elase got that feeling that going it alone isn’t reactionary, it’s brave. It’s not foolhardy–clearly there is more than you out there–but trust your fucking self sometimes, man. No one likes you as much as you do, so samba down streets of your design while everyone soporifically strolls the same avenues.
